Brucellosis Testing
It is important that your dog complete a Rapid Side Agglutination Test (RSAT) prior to breeding. This test is the most cost effective, but it sometimes produces a false positive as it screens for a wide range of bacteria. If your test comes back positive, it is recommended to have additional test completed to screen for the presence of Brucella spp. DNA. The American Kennel Club (AKC) strongly recommends this test for both the male and female canine prior to breeding. There is no cure and it is even possible for Canine Brucellosis to be transferred to humans. It is your duty as a responsible breeder to always screen for Brucellosis prior to breeding.
